Spec Mustang (SMG), is a new class in the San Francisco Region of the SCCA, with high hopes of being eligible for the SCCA National Runoffs at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 2014. We’ll know this status as early as mid-November 2013. The class is based on the 2005-2009 Mustang GT that produces a fast and exciting race car with a reasonable build and maintenance cost. There is also a rule against race-built engines, with random dyno testing done to assure everyone is within a few horsepower of one another. This has created very exciting, close and clean racing in the inaugural season. With the strict rules, there is a premium on driver ability and consistency, not bank account. With a very adjustable and stout racing suspension, car setup is also a test of skill for driver and crew. SMG is off and running with around 15 cars built and many in the planning stages!
